I lavori realizzati dalla cooperativa "Tracce" di Finale Ligure sono stati finanziati con i fondi del PSR 2014-2020 della Regione Liguria e permettono di disporre ora di un nuovo sentiero ad anello riservato agli escursionisti a piedi, con partenza e ritorno nel capoluogo di notevolissimo interesse naturalistico, culturale e turistico.

Il percorso inizia presso il Castello Medioevale e si sviluppa lunga la parte nord est del territorio comunale per circa 23 km toccandone le principali bellezze e attrattive. 

Attraverso esso si raggiungono due vette primarie delle Alpi Liguri quali il Bric Agnellino e il Monte Carmo, oltre a 3 vette minori quali il Monte Grosso, il Bric Avicello e il Bric Pagliarina.

Lungo il tracciato, sempre molto panoramico e spettacolare, si possono vistare le caselle/ricovero dei pastori in loc. Cormoruzzi, la zona della Cascina Cormore ancora parzialmente in uso e la splendida foresta dell’Acquetta che rappresenta la parte meridionale della faggeta del Melogno, una delle più grandi d’Europa.

Nella parte centrale della foresta è visibile il bellissimo Lago Rotondo, originale dolina con presenza di acqua, mentre nella parte più alta del territorio si trova la cresta Balzi Rossi che da il nome al sentiero. Dopo un bel tratto in quota si raggiunge la vetta del Monte Carmo ove è possibile utilizzare su prenotazione il rifugio Amici del Carmo.

Nel tratto di rientro si transita presso le eccezionali case a Fungo, o Case dei Puffi, e poi dopo alcuni saliscendi nei boschi misti di castagno e pino silvestre, il sentiero transita, prima del termine, presso la stupefacente chiesetta di san Nicolò. Essa custodisce all’interno un ciclo pittorico medioevale di grande valore (visitabile su prenotazione). 

Nella stessa area sono presenti i resti di un castellaro romano e la fonte termale fons Salutis. Il sentiero, che si sviluppa per lungo tratto sul crinale tirreno padano, riserva molte particolarità naturalistiche con boschi di faggio, castagno, acero, frassini, ontano, sorbo, nocciolo, pino, abeti bianchi e rossi, betulle, pioppi e permette di vedere la ricca fauna locale. Infatti è facile incontrare daini, caprioli, cinghiali, volpi, camosci, scoiattoli, faine oltra a rari volatili quali il picchio nero, rosso e verde, la poiana, l’aquila reale e il biancone.

Non meno interessanti sono le particolarità geomorfologiche in quanto il percorso si sviluppa in una delle aree carsiche più vaste della regione con numerose grotte, doline, inghiottitoti etc.

Il percorso, medio impegnativo, è inserito nella REL (Rete escursionistica Ligure) ed è fattibile per buoni camminatori in circa 6-8 ore ma dato il notevole dislivello di 1200 mt circa può essere suddiviso in 2-3 tappe, con rientro possibile in loc. Rampione, e Quarti.

The works carried out by the cooperative "Tracce" of Finale Ligure have been financed with the funds of the RDP 2014-2020 of the Liguria Region and allow us to now have a new ring path reserved for hikers on foot, with departure and return in the capital of considerable naturalistic, cultural and tourist interest.

The route begins at the Medieval Castle and develops along the north-eastern part of the municipal territory for about 23 km touching the main beauties and attractions. 

Through it you reach two primary peaks of the Ligurian Alps such as Bric Agnellino and Monte Carmo, as well as 3 smaller peaks such as Monte Grosso, Bric Avicello and Bric Pagliarina.

Along the route, always very scenic and spectacular, you can visit the boxes / shelter of the shepherds in loc. Cormoruzzi, the area of Cascina Cormore still partially in use and the splendid Acquetta forest that represents the southern part of the Melogno beech forest, one of the largest in Europe.

In the central part of the forest you can see the beautiful Lake Rotondo, an original sinkhole with the presence of water, while in the highest part of the territory there is the Balzi Rossi ridge that takes its name to the path. After a nice stretch at high altitude you reach the summit of Monte Carmo where you can use the Amici del Carmo refuge by reservation.

In the return stretch you pass by the exceptional houses in Fungo, or Houses of the Smurfs, and then after some ups and downs in the mixed woods of chestnut and Scots pine, the path passes, before the end, at the amazing church of San Nicolò. It houses inside a medieval pictorial cycle of great value (which can be visited by reservation). 

In the same area there are the remains of a Roman castellaro and the thermal spring fons Salutis. The path, which develops for a long stretch on the Tyrrhenian ridge of the Po Valley, reserves many natural features with forests of beech, chestnut, maple, ash, alder, rowan, hazel, pine, white and red firs, birches, poplars and allows you to see the rich local fauna. In fact, it is easy to meet fallow deer, roe deer, wild boars, foxes, chamois, squirrels, martens as well as rare birds such as the black, red and green woodpecker, the buzzard, the golden eagle and the short-toed eagle.

No less interesting are the geomorphological peculiarities as the route develops in one of the largest karst areas of the region with numerous caves, sinkholes, swallows etc.

The route, medium challenging, is included in the REL (Ligurian Hiking Network) and is feasible for good walkers in about 6-8 hours but given the considerable difference in height of about 1200 meters can be divided into 2-3 stages, with possible return in loc. Rampione, and Quarti.
